Catch up.

More work by me, Katie and Robyn at college.

I love doing stuff like this were I get to be creative, use my imagination or be totally random.

Some More examples of what I've been up to...

Architecture.

Light Writing.

Fast Shutter Speed.

Floral that I did outside of college.

Street Photography.
This is a small selection of my best work.
I've really been enjoying this course, I've been on two courses perviously to help add up my artistic skill to build into photography. There are so many reasons I love this course.
Firstly, The thought of being on this course actually makes me want to get up on a morning, I couldn't see myself as anything other than a photographer because I have done it so long,
I enjoy everything that we have done, some more than others,
So far the creation of shoe love and the light writing have been the best.
The pictures of the building didn't interest me as much as the other things.
Ive still been doing photography outside of college I've even set up my own Facebook page to promote as a business.
I've made money off photography in the past but I'd still do it even if I got nothing because I really enjoy it.

I was amazed when I was accepted onto this course because I didn't think my english skills would be good enough and thought a lot of my GCSE grades would hold me back,
So when my offer came in the post I must of happy danced for an hour.

My step mum introduced me to photography when I was 13 years old she took a night course at her local high school and when I saw her portfolio I was instantly drawn in by things,
They were just everyday life but I saw them from a completely different angle because if back then I'd seen what she'd photographed myself, I'd of not seen it in the same way that I did in pictures because it just showed the colours a lot more vibrant and made things more calm and I saw a meaning in them,
My comfort zone in photography is Portraits because I like to show emotion in a new way.
I got my first camera for my 16th birthday, it was a Film SLR.
I started taking it to family weddings then my family started paying me to do it, then word just spread and I started to take pictures for people I didn't know.
I struggle with remembering things so I always write down everything that I do into my note book.
So really everything is documented there.
To Improve the course I think we should get more hand outs and get more chance to write down in our books because I find it easier to absorb writing down work.
The only thing that could improve this course is getting more studio time.
I think for the future I am going to look at new angles for my shots and be more open minded about what I'm shooting.

Chow for now.

Street Photography.

First Session with Tom, We went around Leeds city center taking photos of interesting things such as people animals graffiti etc.
Set up the camera onto a fast-ish shutter speed like 1/100 then iso 400 this was all done in AV mode then we took pictures,
(Unfortunately my battery died so I got about 12)

Just a few of my images.

But I looked up some Street Photographers and found a guy called 'Matt Stuart' who I found interesting, Most of the work I've seen is based off the streets of London.

I love the randomness of his pieces because its different and he hasn't set anything up its just like that and the pieces are also really amusing.

Shutter Speeds.
Light writing, We set the shutter speed to Aprox 13 secconds, used a high appiture and low iso.
Then drew with a torch and took pictures,
If you dont alter the appiture you can over expose or under expose the image.I also experimented with a higher shutter speed. I went up to the maximum which was 30 which gave me a lot of effect.

High shutter speed. We basically set the cameras up to the opposite of what we did for light writing then I went into a group with Robyn and we basically jumped around and took pictures.

High and Low Key.
Low Key:
We did 3 different set ups,
Starting out with a black background, Put the ISO to 200, Appiture 11, Shutter Speed 125.

Set up 1:
(Excuse the backwards pictures my scanners a bit messed up atm.)

We set a main light up so it was facing the wall / the side of the subject, sat the subject in-between the light and the wall then look a picture which gave us a shadowed effect.

Set up 2:
We set up a back light behind the subject with a honey comb cover, this gave the subject a halo effect.

Set up 3:
We Removed the the honey comb, turned the back light around took a picture again then that made a spotlight effect behind the subject.

Set up 4:
We turned the back light back around, then added the honey comb back on, we also added an aluminum foil to act as a reflector at the side of subject, which added a less solid effect to the subject.

My low key photography:

High Key:
(An example of high key photography)

High key lighting we didn't focus as much on, but, High key is a white background which emphasizes any colour in the subject, we used 3 light boxes and set them around the subject

My high key photography:

High key Photography:
High key is mostly used in children's portaits, because it enhances colour and gives a lot of light and looks very happy.

Also looks nice for floral shots.

High key is all about lighting and background, the brighter the better.

High key set up:
(ignore Kateh being possesed in le back ground).

Architecture
You can get some really interesting shots of buildings in Leeds city center I never actually realised how nice the buildings in leeds actually looked in Leeds till I looked at them through my camera.
We traveled from the college to the Granary Wharf area. We looked at the lines, symmetry and structure of the buildings around us and found some really interesting things.

Circles and Squares.

At the beginning of the year we went to millennium square and took pictures with different shutter speeds. taking pictures of each other running up and down the square.
Cant remember a lot of it because like i said beginning of the year and that.

Monday, in Tony's session, I went out in a group with Ceri and Sam and we had to take pictures of circles and squares I was in charge of squares Ceri did circles and Sam yelled when she saw them, Lol :)
But here are my squares.

Then I put them into a wee movie.

Macro
Well, we've basically went around town, taking pictures of things close up.
so yeah here you go...

Still Life.
Still life is obviously objects that dont move eg, nature, fruit, keys and jewelry.

Light set up:
Side box lighting x2
Under bed lighting.
Objects for subject.

Camera Settings:
ISO: 100
FNO: 11 - 16
S.S: 125

To help keep focus close up to the object we used an extension tube to get more of a zoom.

My own shoot of still life

Magazine.
At the beginning of the year we made magazine covers using images from a black and white photographer who's name I can't for the life of me remember but i will find out as soon as I can, if anyone knows from the image leave me a comment please :)
But I did mine as a fashion style magazine using photoshop.
I added text and a bar code to it.
This is mine. Didn't quite finish but looks nice :).
Slide Shows.
Right, Also on Monday with Tim, We created slide shows of out work and added music to it, Because I was tired there was an incident with mine and I had to re do mine at home so it not as good as my first but here goes.
100 pull out posters.
The magazine's cover draws her in, offering teen heartthrobs and unthreatening love.

She picks it up, tempted, as the phone rings. "hello?" "hey loser! want to come over and watch wrestling?"

(it's Jason, her neighbor) "Okay". Tossing the magazine aside,

She starts looking for sneakers. Real boys are always better.
Scrap Book.

Why I chose Macro for my final images.

Why I chose Macro for my final images.

I chose to do Macro photography, because 1, it's a comfort zone and 2, I feel that my shots are better on Macro than anything else, you can always get finer detail in Macro than any other shots like landscapes and regular photography.

                                                                                                                        Shutter 50.

                                                                                Shutter 100.                                       Shutter 150.

Health and Safety.

Tom Evaluation:
Street Photography: I enjoyed street because it like capturing random little things and interesting people in the street it was kind of awkward for me because most of my models know they have to look at me and I don't look like some sort of crazed stalker or a mad woman with a camera.
Was a little rubbish 'cause my camera died and then I started seeing things that would make fun shots if the camera was alive so my lesson there was charge camera better.
But looking though others shots they were really interesting and I'm going to use Street in my final assignment with Tim.
I could probably of expanded on it by looking for things a little harder and walking to other places and used more technique just like doing portrait and maybe a faster shutter.

Light painting: I loved light painting, I've never done it before and it was brilliant I just found I interesting how the camera picks up on so much when you leave shutters open.
Was a bit hard because I couldn't think of much to draw and we had little space to do it in and i could of done with a tripod to have done more.

Fast shutter: Was OK, didn't have much space to do it in so could of gone better, Also I couldn't get my F number to stay where I wanted so it was pretty dark but I could of used flash thinking about it now,
Also could of done with tripod again to avoid movement blur.

Macro: I love Macro photography, I do it a lot especially with flowers and nature because they look so better detailed than they would in normal circumstances. So when we got asked to do it for Tom I really enjoyed it and used it for my final images, could of improved by taking my macro lens with me if I'd of know thats what we were doing.

Image proposal.

I have 2 ideas for my Final images, My first is black and white street photography that looks really dramatic and romantic too, using Katie, Robyn and their boyfriends as my models and get ahold of some props that I'm going to photoshop so they are still in colour.

Image 2 is Macro photography of flowers and other things in nature.

I'm leaning toward the street photography so I'm out of comfort zone, I'm gonna try some mock ups over the weekend to decide what I wanna do.

Out of college of work.

Mock up.

Just a little mock up of what I'm gonna do for my final piece.

I wanna do portraits like this, just outdoors in the street, so this is just to give an idea.

New Proposal.

I have changed my idea on my Final project I am going to go with Nature shots But maybe add some people out into the nature to bring in portraits to the shots. Because they aren't going well at all in the other plan.

Final Images:

For my final images I chose to do self portraits - mainly because no one would modle for me but, instead of changing my idea to something that didn't need models, i pushed myself out of my fear of having my photo taken and modled for myself, all with the work of self timer and a tri pod I did a few images but these are my best five.
I chose to work in black and white because theres something really dramatic about it and makes the images look less colourful (not stating the obvious at all) but unless its very bright colour im not a fan because i think black and white adds some sort of mystery to portraits.

Task 6.
My final presentation.

Out of college portraits.

My mum :)
